When shopping for desktop printers, one consideration is ink cost. Desktop printer inks can be very expensive, and some desktop printers empty ink cartridges quite quickly. This is especially important if you expect to use your printer heavily, whether for text printing or photo printing. Some people choose to refill their cartridges, have them refilled, or purchase refilled cartridges to save on ink. While this will reduce the costs associated with inks for desktop printers, it can cause problems with your printer software or warranty.
The most affordable solution to the cost of inks for desktop printers is the home refill kit. Basically, home refill kits come with ink and a dull hypodermic type syringe. Simply shoot ink via the syringe into your current ink cartridge. This is quite affordable, and will typically allow refills at only a few dollars per cartridge. Unfortunately for those trying to save on desktop printer inks, this is also often a problematic solution with regard to your printer’s functionality and warranty. The majority of printer manufacturers do deem refilling as a violation of warranty terms. Also, if you plan to refill your own printer cartridges, choose a printer without a micro chipped cartridge system to avoid software related problems. If you’d like to save on inks for desktop printers without the risk to your warranty, look for specials at retailers, and consider choosing a desktop printer with available generic or remanufactured cartridges. Typically, these may be used without warranty violations or problems with the overall function of the printer software. |
